In 1946 the Second Baptist Church Board of Ushers Riverside became a member of the Southern District at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Malachi Turner, at 4512 Howard Street, Riverside, California. Officers were Mrs. Gertie R. Lee, State President, Mr. Guier, Southern District President and Mrs. Mary Alice Gordon Vice President.
On March 13, 1950, the Citrus Valley District Ushers Union was organized in Redlands, California at the Second Baptist Church where rev. Charles W. Hopkins was Pastor. Other Pastors present for the organizing were, Dr. Win. Thomas, Second Baptist Riverside, Rev. Freeman Williams, St. Mark Baptist Church San Bernardino, Rev. J. D. Johnson, Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Riverside and Rev. T. L. Scott, Allen Chapel A. M. E. Church Riverside.
Organizers were : Mrs. Gertie R. Lee, State President, Mrs. Mary Alice Gordon, President Southern District and Mr. Julius C. Hall, 1stVice President of Southern District. Five churches formed the District (called the Union at that time). The Officers were Mrs. Eugenia Hopkins, President, Second Baptist Redlands, Mrs. Chardsie L. Walton Goins, 1st Vice President, Second Baptist Church Riverside, Mr. Lawrence Ferrell, 2nd Vice President, Allen Chapel AME Church Riverside, Mrs. Maxine Williamson, Recording Secretary, Allen Chapel AME Church Riverside, Mr. Robert Howard, Financial Secretary/Treasurer and Mrs. Lillian Blanchette, Chaplin St. Baptist Church San Bernardino.
The purpose of organizing the District was to have a better understanding of the techniques of ushering and Christian Fellowship with other local churches.
