The Santa Clara/Monterey District Ushers were organized September 9, 1975, with State President Usher Helen Helton, Usher Elmer Buchanan, Usher Willie B. Smith and other State Officers, Pastor Rev. G.E. Hooks and Rev. J.D. Houston at the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on E. San Antonio Street in San Jose, California. 

There were eight churches involved in the organization of the District: Antioch Baptist Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church, Friendship Church of God in Christ, New Bethel Church of God in Christ, Prayer Garden Church of God in Christ, St. James A.M.E. Church, St Paul Missionary Baptist, all of San Jose and Community Baptist Church of Pacific Grove. 

In 1992, Santa Clara/Monterey District Ushers’ name was changed to Santa Clara District Ushers. 

The role of the church usher is an awesome responsibility in growing the kingdom of God. We continue to encourage our adults, young adults, and young ushers to be aware of the needs of those entering our churches. When people appear on the doorsteps, God is at work. 

Therefore, the mission of the Santa Clara District Ushers is to support the churches and community by providing a friendly and welcoming environment in our churches as we give all praises to our heavenly Father for the blessings and gifts he has given us to share with others.

The Santa Clara District is honored to be a part of the Union Usher Board State of California, Inc., affiliated with the Western Region, and the National United Church Ushers Association of America, Inc.
